Last night at FHE I could not stop thinking about this riddle. Here it is:
There are 3 men on a bus sitting one in front another. All facing the front of the bus. Another guy gets on the bus with 5 hats. 3 black and 2 white. The guy places a hat on each of the 3 guys and moves to the back of the bus. He tells the 3 guys that if they can figure out what color of hat they are wearing he will give them a million dollars. The guy in the front is the first one to speak up. He figures it out and wins the million dollars. What color of hat is he wearing and how does he know?
I wish I could say that I figured this out on my own... I could've if given the time. Maybe.

I emailed the riddle to dave at work. He sent it back in two seconds. Disgusting I know! Here is his explanation if someone wants to hear it....
He is wearing black.
There are 4 combinations between the first two guys: W B, W W, B W, and B B. If it were W W, than the back guy would know he were wearing black since he could see the other two white hats. Since the back guy didn't say he was wearing black, the first and second guys knew that they both weren't wearing white. If the front guy was wearing white, the second guy would wait until the back guy hadn't spoken and he would know he was wearing black since the front guy was wearing white and the back guy hadn't said he was wearing black. The first guy waited until he figured the back two guys had enough time to figure this out and then he knew he was wearing black.
Oh, haha. I was going to say that there was a mirror above the bus driver and he saw himself. Then I saw the correct answer...
Ha ha nope no mirrors.
Katie- Dave is such a nerd! My dad did the exact same thing. That's the right answer if we assume that the 3 guys are smart. :)
how sad is it that I don't get it? Even AFTER the explanation?
